DJO Newsletter | Issue 1 - Summer 2007

Welcome by Lieve Vanden Berghe,

DJO International's Marketing Director

Welcome to the first issue of DJO International's quarterly e-newsletter in which we aim to provide you with regular, informative news from the orthopaedic field together with our company updates. It also includes news on grants, fellowship programmes and research projects we operate around the world.

We very much hope this newsletter becomes a platform for sharing information about each other’s projects and common interests. If you would like to announce one of your projects or initiatives, contribute to the next issue or give us your feedback on this newsletter, please contact us. Our next issue is planned for the beginning of October.

In addition to our international news, we will regularly report on interesting country-specific initiatives. Obviously we cannot list them all, but we will continue to develop this eNewsletter as the platform from which we guide & connect you to country specific updates. Your local DJO team continues to be your principal source of information for regional DJO events and product launches.

Finally, please visit our new website www.donjoy.eu for more about our latest news, our products, and our commitment to leading the way through dedicated R&D.

Yours sincerely,

Lieve Vanden Berghe
DJO, Director International Marketing

High performance and Innovation at the ISAKOS Congress in Florence

ISAKOS held one of its best ever Orthopaedic Congresses this year in the beautiful historic city of Florence. With over 600 unexpected visitors registering during the Congress, ISAKOS was rewarded for the tremendous effort they made to improve the quality of their educational and scientific programmes, a task which is greatly supported by DJO and other leading Orthopaedic Companies.

With the international key opinion leaders all gathered together, the ISAKOS Congress is an ideal opportunity for DJO to organise satellite meetings and to introduce new products. On Saturday May 26th, DJO, together with Prof Arendt, Almquist and Fulkerson successfully organised a PF Experts Meeting on “Understanding PF Pain”. It led to some very fruitful discussions and the organisers will summarise the most important conclusions over the next few months. More news on this initiative will follow in our next issue.

Research from the Field

"Take a Load Off" Clinical evidence into the effectiveness of osteoarthritic knee bracing

Results of studies into OA knee bracing, using DonJoy's "OA Adjuster", published in "The Journal of Bone & Joint Surgery" demonstrated conclusively that the principle of offloading knee brace technology used on patients displaying symptomatic unicompartmental OA under in vivo, dynamic weight-bearing conditions, was successful in providing separation of the medial femoral condyle form the tibial plateau, thus avoiding excessive loads on the degenerated compartment.

by Thierry Sarasyn

For Nick de Wit, the South African freestyle motor cross star, the 2007 season looked more promising than ever. He had a complete European tour booked. After that he was lined up for the Red Bull X-Fighters - ‘Sick Nick’ was even going to be the first African rider to compete in the ‘Olympics of freestyle motor cross’. Sadly things didn’t work out as planned…

During the Masters Of Dirt competition in Graz, Austria, Nick pulled some amazing backflips, during which he put his left foot on the ground to make a simple turn, which forced Nick’s left knee to pop out, He had torn his ACL and damaged the cartilage. This is when DonJoy stepped in.
